SKIN LAXITY & CELLULITE

What Is Skin Laxity?
Do you have concerns of loose, crepey skin on your body? Skin laxity is something everyone will face at some point in their life due to the natural aging process. Besides aging, there are other factors that can play a part in skin laxity, such as intrinsic and extrinsic factors, genetics, diet, lifestyle, sun exposure, stress and smoking.

Sometimes following a healthy diet and workout regimen isn’t enough to target laxity in the skin. There are two vital components to the skin’s structure that will affect laxity; collagen and elastin. As we age we begin to lose these two key components and our skin begins to lose elasticity, resulting in loose or sagging skin.

What Is Cellulite?
Cellulite is a term for the formation of lumps and dimples in the skin. Cellulite can affect both men and women, but it is more common in females, due to the different distributions of fat, muscle, and connective tissue.

The exact cause of cellulite is unknown, but it appears to result from an interaction between the connective tissue in the dermatological layer that lies below the surface of the skin, and the layer of fat that is just below it.

-
In women, the fat cells and connective tissue in this layer are arranged vertically.
-
If the fat cells protrude into the layer of skin, this gives the appearance of cellulite.
-
In men, the tissue has a criss-cross structure, which may explain why are less likely to have cellulite than women.
